Drinking Salty Sol Water is our go-to for a morning ritual, but is it good to soak your skin in too?
Dealing with environmental toxins, stress, winter dryness, and recovering from sickness are all great reasons to take a CBD citrus bath. If you're feeling a little dull & sluggish this salty bath recipe can rid the Winter Blues and revive body and mind.
Why do you need to detox your skin?
The skin is the body's largest organ, and it’s constantly in contact with the elements of daily life. Pollutants and dirt from the environment can clog your pores, and toxins from your diet and daily skincare products can build up in the skin, making your lymph system sluggish. Here are a few things that can not only cause skin damage, but can also hinder your body's immune response.
- air pollution
It contains PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), which can lead to skin cancer, dehydration, compromised barrier function, inflammation, loss of elasticity and firmness, and uneven skin tone.
- excessive sugar and dietary toxins
- product buildup
Heavy use of sunscreen and make-up without deep cleansing can lead to skin dullness, congestion and irritation.
Start with High-Quality Basics:
It sounds so simple but this is where most people get it wrong. They use cheap products made with synthetic fragrances, actually causing or making conditions worse. Unfortunately, the fake fragrance of synthetic essential oils are throughout tons of commercially produced items. Even Dr. Teals has some explaining to do with 'parfum' as the second ingredient of most of their bath soaks and foot soaks. 🙁
Epsom Salts Aren't Enough for a Great Bath
Soaking in an Epsom Salt bath is a great start to your detox regimen but if you're only soaking in magnesium flakes and expecting great results, you might be disappointed. Magnesium is an important mineral playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body. It serves many functions, including reducing inflammation, helping muscle and nerve function and supporting the immune system. Soaking in Epsom salt baths have been used to ease sore muscles, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain and itchiness due to eczema and psoriasis so adding additional minerals and CBD can certainly enhance results.
Here's Why CBD is Great for Your Bath
CBD is widely taken as an internal supplement that helps a variety of inflammatory conditions. Yet, because it is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, CBD can also help soothe angry skin conditions and help absorb harsh environmental pollutants.
When pores are warm, clean and open, the body is able to absorb nutrients deeply into the skin, feeding the endocannabinoid system and creating lasting change.
Adding Herbs & Citrus
The Vitamin C in lemons ( or grapefruit if you prefer ) acts as an astringent, opening the pores and giving your skin a deep clean.
The citric acid and vitamin C in the citrus peels help to shrink pore size, draw out toxins, and stimulate new cell growth.
According to this Harvard Study, topical vitamin C can help with acne through its anti-inflammatory properties that help control sebum (oil) production within the skin.
Make sure to choose organic produce when adding to your bath, otherwise, you might be sitting in a vat of pesticides.
Adding a high-quality bath oil such as Naked or On the Mend can provide additional CBD benefits while locking in moisture and leaving your skin soft and silky. Adding certain essential oils such as lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus oil can provide aromatherapy benefits while bathing in the warm waters.
“Lavender is known for its ability to calm the nervous system, lift the mood and even lower blood pressure,” says Dr. Lin of Cleveland Health Clinic.
So, if stress and anxiety is at the root of your skin problems, adding some pure lavender essential oil could be just the right 'spice' for this bath soak recipe.
Rosemary and Eucalyptus are also good options due to antifungal, antibacterial properties but make sure to use less than you normally would... WAY less. you won't need as much because your body will adapt quicker with CBD.
